Lakota Wolf Preserve | Columbia, New Jersey

My friends and family took another trip to the Lakota Wolf Preserve in Columbia, New Jersey this past weekend, and it has quickly become one of my very favorite places to visit. If you are around the area, be sure to go if you’re able. It’s very affordable, but the wonderful people who work there and take care of these majestic animals also take the time to educate you on the preserve, the animals, and will answer any questions you may have. The preserve is a must see for wolf lovers!

As the wolves howled and roamed around the preserve, I tried to take a few photos with my telephoto. Same as the last time I visited, it was kind of difficult to get through the chain link fence, so there might be some light, blurry lines. However, I feel like it gives the photos a sort of ethereal look to them! And this time around, I managed to get a couple photos of one of the adorable foxes!

SteelStacks | The Former Bethlehem Steel Plant, PA

A couple weekends ago, my husband and I met friends from New Jersey halfway in Lehigh Valley at SteelStacks, once the home plant of Bethlehem Steel. It is now ten acres dedicated to culture, arts, and all sorts of social events. Driving up, I instantly saw the iconic structures looming above the horizon, and found it wonderful to see an old memorable place slowly being transformed into something new and different.

I thoroughly enjoyed my walk around the campus that has once again begun to thrive. If you have never visited, I highly advise that you go check it out! Especially in the Fall when the foliage is just as beautiful as the old structures you walk next to.

Katie & Kenny’s Wedding | The Glasbern Inn – Fogelsville

I absolutely love Fall weddings, and last year I was very fortunate to have photographed two in the same weekend! Katie and Kenny’s had been the last of the season, and it was simply beautiful. Being friends of mine, it made it all the more special for me, and I was happy to document the special day for them. Kenny’s brother, Matt, was the groom of the very first wedding I ever photographed, too!

They were married in Fogelsville, Pennsylvania at the rustic Glasbern Inn in November where the season’s colors were in full bloom to create the perfect backdrop. It had been rainy, but the couple remained in high spirits as they celebrated with friends and family, and everyone had a wonderful time.

Katie & Jeff’s Wedding | Meredith Manor – Pottstown

This past November, when the leaves on the trees changed to reds, oranges, and yellows, I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph my first Fall wedding. Having lived around the Pottstown, Pennsylvania area for awhile now, it was crazy how I never got to visit Meredith Manor before Katie and Jeff’s wedding! It’s an absolutely gorgeous venue with well-kept grounds, and the perfect spot for an outdoors ceremony. They held their’s late afternoon, just as the sun was descending, in front of all their friends and family. A very laid back and pleasant couple to work with, they made my job that much more enjoyable, and I wish them nothing but happiness as they begin the next chapter of their lives together.

Erin & Justin’s Wedding | Cairnwood Estate – Bryn Athyn

Living in Pennsylvania, the Winter storms can be brutal, but at least I get the chance to look back at the beautiful summer weddings I’ve had the opportunity to photograph over the years. Erin and Justin’s was no exception. Holding the nuptials in a church with a wonderful ceremony, they had their reception at the historic estate of Cairnwood in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania. It was like a fairy tale, and the grounds were absolutely gorgeous! It was the perfect backdrop for their rustic, Disney, and geek inspired wedding in September. In between, we all stopped at Penn State Abington where the couple first met, to take some memorable photographs there as well. All in all, it was a great day, and Erin and Justin (along with their whole entourage) were absolutely wonderful to work with!

You may also remember this happy couple from the engagement session with their adorable dog, Sebastian from last March! He made a brief cameo during their special day as well.

The Forgotten Country Club | Abandoned Photography

This last weekend, my husband and I took a trip up to the Poconos to my mother’s camper, and I was sure to bring my camera along because I knew there was an abandoned country club somewhere nearby. With my brother in tow (who is also a budding photographer) we set off in search of this place I had simply heard about in passing. What we found was something eerily serene and we were instantly bubbling with excitement; unable to wait to explore the grounds that had been forgotten and left to decay by the hands of time.

Please note that I have not disclosed the name or exact location of this abandoned place in order to prevent further vandalism and arson. These beautiful, quiet and decaying buildings are already fragile and vulnerable, and I do not wish to contribute to their decline by disrespectful hands.

Horse Portraits | PA Animal Photography

This summer has been a brutal one. I’m sure we say this every single year, but truly this has been far worse than usual! Yet despite the heavy humidity, the horses and their loving riders at Hampton Stables still endured the weather for some photos. The girls (one being my awesome sister-in-law) wanted some portraits done of their beautiful (and very amusing) horses, and I wanted to share some of the results below. Even though it had been a very hot day, I enjoyed spending my time with them and these interesting animals, and hope to do so again in the future. What personalities!

Zoey’s Morning Routine | PA Pet Photograghy

This morning I looked down our little “s”-shaped hallway to find Zoey sitting by the door, patiently waiting for my husband to come back in with Chewie. This is a morning routine for her and I was hellbent on getting photographic evidence of it! Silently rushing into the office, I snapped on my telephoto lens before crawling across the floor (yes, I actually crawled) to peer around the corner. I had no time to turn on any lights or adjust much in way of camera settings because she was bound to catch on. Zoey dislikes getting her photo taken and has this radar, this strange sixth sense for knowing when a camera is pointed at her. It’s so ridiculous that I had written this previous blog about how to deal with a shy dog like that, and being sneaky is a major key. I managed to snag a few shots before she noticed. The last image you see was right before she rushed towards me like a ball of fluffy lightning.

A Smartphone-Photographed Disney & Universal Vacation

Is using your smartphone to take photos on your trip really a good idea? Is it as good as using a simple point-and-shoot or a DSLR? Cameras built into modern smartphones are better than some point-and-shoots that I’ve used in the past. Additionally, carrying around your cell is a lot easier than taking a camera, even a small, compact one around with you. Now, as much as the quality of images on smartphones has improved with each year, they are still no match for that of a DSLR camera.

Though I am an avid photographer, I don’t always want to carry around my “big” camera with me. Of course, that all depends upon where I’m going. If I were to go on another cruise through the Mediterranean, visiting such beautiful places as Italy, Greece and Egypt, I would certainly want my DSLR! It isn’t every day that I can visit these places (it can be a bit pricey, you know). Disney World, though, is a different matter.

In January of 2015, my husband and I honeymooned in Florida, staying at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter resort. I still wanted to document our trip but did not wish to carry a bag around with me, so I definitely did not want to take my big camera, especially on all of the rides. I could have brought my point-and-shoot, even though it was still a little bulky, yet I realized that the megapixels on my Moto X was a lot better. The camera was old, but my phone had a 10MP camera (which is quite impressive to me for a phone), as well as 1080 p HD video. I always have my phone on me so problem solved!

I was very impressed with the quality of photos that my smartphone took. See for yourself below!

As you can see, taking photographs on your trip is easily done with a smartphone! I would also like to point out that clarity doesn’t always make for a fantastic image- it’s all about the composition and the feelings you get when looking at a photo that really make it great.
